Rapid Data Recovery
Storage Engine iSCSI Storage Server complements DPM environments by delivering advanced storage services of the file and system data for rapid recovery of DPM’s Protected Servers.
iSCSI Storage Server (iSS) provides reliable protection for the system volumes of DPM-protected file servers by working in conjunction with both DiskSafe™, Storage Engine’s advanced host-based replication application, and Storage Engine’s Snapshot Agents for Windows servers. Natively DPM protects the data of Windows servers. When iSS is integrated into a DPM environment, DiskSafe adds the capability to replicate each server’s system drive to the iSS-managed storage, facilitating bare metal recovery in the event of a system crash.
Once replicas of the protected servers reside on local iSS-managed storage, the replication service enables the data to be replicated remotely, across any distance, to a secondary location with iSS-managed storage.
This can serve multiple purposes. First, this protects file, database, and messaging data in the event of a site failure/disaster at the primary site, supporting rapid data recovery and fast resumption of business operations. Second, it can serve to consolidate remote office backup by replicating data from numerous satellite offices to a central data center where iSCSI Storage Server ZeroImpact Backup to tape can be performed without any impact to the LAN or the production environment.
